Rants etc.....

Well on a good note costco had an amazing deal on a hisense 20cuft cheaper than 12-16cuft units from anywhere else. Bad news after getting the darn thing into the basement I mismeasured the ceiling clearance in the cold room... so it gets to stay in the common area downstairs until I shuffle a few things around over the winter and make room in the laundry room instead.

Jumping from 10 to 20 will have room to potentially get 1/4 beef or something again

You folks with your fancy big deep freezes.... we've got one that's slightly larger than a typical bar fridge and counter height. Works well enough since it's only the two of us and any bigger would probably result in freezer burn length of storage.

Growing family combine with making bulk things in advance. If I cook a chicken I'll turn the carcas into soup stock etc. Freezer jams with reduced sugar that I can share with diabetic relatives, self breaded fish with reduced salt for relatives on low salt diet. Make french fries from fresh potatoes so they are made with zero added salt etc.

If it was just my wife and I and not doing/sharing the extras and having kids and dogs then I would have gone smaller instead of larger.

Definitely good uses for freezers for sure. For us it is buying meat at scale as you mentioned or on sale. Takes up a fair bit of space.

Our chest one is a Danby from Costco, and I didn't know anything about the brand when we bought it. But 15 years now and still going (fingers crossed)

Yeh, we are getting a 1/2 soon. The 1/4 didn't last as long as I thought it would.
