3D Printer / CNC discussion thread

Heh.... been a while....

Just a general rant about those times when printing just seems to stop adhering to the print surface overnight.... it usually occurs right after changing to a new filament so the first instinct is to blame the filament and try to adjust settings to make it work (or start printing rafts if its a relatively small part that you just need one of), but when nothing works you end up swapping both nozzle and print surface (not necessarily a new surface either, just a different one) et, voila!!!!! Printing resumes as if there was never anything wrong!!!!

Second rant.... folks who create designs that don't sit flat on the print surface.... I never think to check the bottom of my cura slice, but often when you look at the bottom it's pretty much all red with just a small piece in the yellow......;

I need to use mine a bit more though at the moment that requires me sitting down and updating one of several 3D models I've been working off and on for a few years now...

I've been putting off updating both my octoprint install (still on python 2 and 2 years out of date) and the most recent Cura. (Which apparently has some game changing upgrades).

I just hate messing with stuff if it's working. :)

Cura and PrusaSlicer have both upgraded to a new wall pathing engine, which IMO should be one of the biggest slicing improvements in like 5 years.

Good vid on info

Looks like a set of nozzles are in order because I think i only have 0.4 on hand

I'm in the middle of a fairly large project for my daughter (a set of some kind of game pieces that she bought the design package for) but I guess I'll have to take the plunge when I'm done that.

If for nothing else, then for the supposedly improved detail while I use up my lifetime supply of .4 nozzles. ;)

Heh.... gonna start an excessively tall 9hr+ print and let it go overnight.... fully expecting a visit from the spaghetti monster...

Attempting to print the arm from this mount in the upright position so that I don't have to muck up the threads with supports.

edit: If this doesn't work (and I have a strong suspicion that it isn't going to) I'll just print it from the bottom up with supports for the threaded part and break out the jeweler's file set.

Why not just use the stock mounting brackets?
