3D Printer / CNC discussion thread

Well the Prusa up and died on me. It is having an extruder issue. It will just start stuttering while extruding. Last night if failed to finish the print. Try to do a filament swap and the motor goes one direction, then goes the other, then back to forward. So either and stepper or stepper driver. The stepper isn't very old, maybe 3 years. I have couple spares so I'll try that first.

EDIT: Bambu A1 has shipped. ETA next Thursday. Still going to try to fix the Prusa in the next couple days if I have time. Putting my car audio on hold for a week would suck.

here's something for all of you to lust after...a 3D printer / CnC / Laser Cutter in one!

The snap maker stuff is cool but very expensive for the small working area. And all the little accessories you need to take advantage just keep adding to it.

Got the Bambu A1. I am very impressed. It is pretty much the same speed as the K1 but it is so quiet compared to it. the noise cancelling works really well. My Prusa which moves @ at least half the speed is twice as loud.

Benchy took 20 min. But that does include the 4-5 minute calibration that the printer does before every print.

Damn... dunno if it's just the pic, but that looks super smooth. Barely any layer lines.

Did you get the version with multiple filament printing? How's the print bed size when compared to a creality "220 X 220"? Is it fully 250+ square printing surface or are there some no-print areas at the edges?

It should be pretty close to 256 cubed if you remove the purge lines from the starting gcode.

I did get the AMS, which is the filament changer tool. Doubt I'll do much for multi-colour. But it saves me swapping between PETG and PLA all the time. Plus if one roll empties it can automatically swap to a 2nd roll of similar material type.

Nozzle changes;
Creality K1 = a long very frustrating time. Good chance of breaking thermistor/heater wiring
Prusa MK3S = Typical V6. Not quick and definitely a change to break the heatbreak.
Bambu A1 = 15-20 seconds. No wires. Almost as easy as a E3D Revo.

Also nozzle was very reasonably priced. About $15 for a 0.6mm hardened.

So that's the model you bought? Supports 4X different rolls of filament? Have you looked into modelling with different colours / materials?

How was the out-of-box - ready-to-print experience?

Looks pretty decent, the only thing missing is a heat/dehumidify enclosure for the filament.

edit: I should read better.... you said you got the AMS?

Or did you get the A1 combo that includes the AMS "Lite"?

Either way..... super cool!!!!!

Out of box experience is by far the easiest printer out there. Had to do about 20 min of assembly. But everything else is designed for Joe blow with no 3d printing experience.

It alsomatically calibrated flow by sensors in hot end. Great bed levelling. Can detect if the print surface isn't installed (broke bed on Prusa once this way). And loading filament with the AMS is painless.

I have the A1 with the AMS Lite. The Lite can 'only' do 4 colours. While the other AMS can daisy chain to do up to 128 or something stupid.

I printed an enclosure for a pcb this morning with text on it.. It wasn't finished before I left to work. Will see how it turns out.

The K1C was just as easy to setup. plug it in flick the switch and load it with filament everything else was automatic. Nozzle changes also dead simple. The K1C is what the K1 should have been to begin with.
