Baldur's Gate 3

I don't think I've ever had so many issues getting a game to launch. Tried install on my laptop so I could play while visiting parents. Game just crashes to desktop non stop. All drivers updated. Disabled launcher. Verified game files. Deleted appdata folder.

Delete all the files in here - I periodically delete them:
C:\Users\????????\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\LevelCache

-------------------------------------
Check the log file (runlog.txt) to see if there's anything in there that might help pin it down... you'll need to run it through the launcher though to create a log file:
C:\Users\?????????\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Launcher\Logs

Did you ever have any mods previously installed on this computer? If so, there's probably some left over files or possibly corrupt files.
I stopped using Vortex for BG3 mods now.

Once I get the game running okay with mods, I stop using GOG launcher and the Larian Launcher...

I deleted the whole Larian folder.

Have never used mods.

Log shows no relevant info.

BG3 Patch 5 released... not sure why they call a 102+ GB download a patch. While it's a huge update (more items, etc) the download size is more the space needed size to update.

Major items are:
1) Added an epilogue to the ending.
2) Added a higher difficulty level called Honor Mode:
The stakes are raised higher in Honour Mode, as save scumming - the divisive art of loading previous save games - is disabled. Some of the more powerful ‘unintended exploits’ have been removed for players who embark on an Honour Mode adventure, though have been kept open for players to exploit in other difficulty settings.
3) Added a custom difficulty level making it more like a tabletop game setup.
4) Manage inventory for all companions even if they are not in your party
5) Performance improvements for Act 111
6) Players playing on machines with low VRAM/RAM should see improved performance.

There was a report on one of the tech/gaming sites which referenced one of the devs suggesting that the best option would be to uninstall and re-install (assuming all of your saves would port over).

My sister is playing BG3 via my Steam Library. But once she is done I'll likely try to do an For Honour run. I did it in DOS2. Hopefully I'm good enough to do it this time around. Not being able to load a save when you screw up/die can be pretty damn challenging.

There's a problem with some of the older saves. Others have reported this as well. However, someone on Steam said they had the problem and they never had mods installed.

I tried loading an older save but the game just loads the very last recent gamesave no matter what I do. There was an error message noting that the file was missing a mod which I had uninstalled a while ago because I wasn't using it. So I reinstalled the mod and the older save worked fine.

So it's not likely the mod itself, it's the way the game reads the save file and checks the mod list vs the actual mods in the mod folder.
