Hey I've been going through lots of razors to test them. But when I run out of cartridges in a few months I'm thinking of trying a safety razor.


Just wondering which ones you guys use (multi-blade, electric, safety, etc)

Straight razor all the way. Cant get anywhere near as good of a shave as one of those.

I use two electric razors.

An andis t-outliner trimmer, and a phillips arcitec rotary shaver.

Gets the job done quick and easy.

I used to use a straight razor but don't have the time anymore to keep it in top shape, so I just stick with a Gillette Fuzion.

Beautiful finish, and a beautiful shave. The only thing I would like is if the handle was just a *touch* longer, as my hands are a bit on the large side.

I also use a straight, but like Neolithium, I have a hard time keeping them in top shape. Of about 15 razors, I've only got 2 left that are shave-ready <laugh>. And they're going to need a touch-up soon... If you're interested in that sort of thing, you should look at Straight Razor Place Great community, for the most part, and a good place to buy a shave-ready straight. Beware, though; you'll start spending way too much money on interesting razors and accessories...

I've been using a Merkur Classic DE safety razor for the past ~ 4 years with no issues. Although the razor handle really doesn't matter at all. Soap, brush, and blades are what is important. For blades I will only use Feather. They are quite expensive compared to others but they are extremely sharp.

Fendrihan's house brand brushes aren't all that bad. I use their silvertip one here.

As for shaving cream. Proraso is great stuff and rather cheap. I think Shopper's Drug Mart even sells it. Pair it with Proraso Pre Shave and you have a winning combo.

If you are too lazy to lather up or do not want to spend money on a good brush try this no lather cream. It is very good stuff.

+1 for the arcitec. This was a good purchase IMO. Keep my face shaved with long battery life and low noise

shaving for what...35 years or so. straight razors,5 blades, electric multi headed blah blah blah.

best way, by far, is a cheap ass orange Bic. soften up your stubble with a hot cloth first or right after a shower, a 20 cent Bic is the champ(with foam lather of course). don't waste your time being cool with a straight blade or get sucked into those manly man super multi bladed bullshit gizmos.

believe me, all those advertisements you watch are aimed right at your man weaknesses. chicks will not be clinging to you, and you will NOT look like those guys in the ads after you shave with a Ferrari shaped 5 bladed shiny piece of plastic, that you paid 5x what its worth.

I prefer the 2 or 3 bladed disposables myself. I work in the trades and don't need to be clean shaven every day, so it's a Saturday evening or Sunday morning shave for me.
