Want to Buy FOUND - looking for cheep PC parts to build a system faster than a Core 2 Duo E6300

If he was closer I do have a case or two laying around. But considering the size shipping becomes impractical.

as a side note CP is looking at going on strike again in 2 months.

Here's a question: Does he actually do any gaming? Will he game if he gets a capable enough machine? Or does he just needs a machine that's capable of running windows and performing basic tasks?

The reason I ask, is I have two graphics cards - an RX570 (I think!) and a GTX1080. Obviously the GTX1080 will be a better performer in games, but if he's not planning on gaming, then the RX570 would be perfectly adequate. Depending on what powersupply he's getting could determine which card he could use, too.
yes, he will game...which is why I'm doing this. :D

here's an update on where this is at:

CPU - Intel Core i7-8700K
HSF - plan on getting a Thermalright Assassin X 120 off Amazon for about $25.00
MOBO: ASRock Z370/OEM
RAM: 16GB DDR4 something...wasn't told the speed.
SSD - 512GB NVMe, told its one out of a Beelink MiniPC
GPU - GTX 1080, which is kinda funny as its ancient, and yet still 50% faster than the RTX 3050 6GB in my G15!
Case - have to find something off Amazon as shipping any of the offers would be just as much, if not more.
PSU - have several offers for older 550w and 750w but need to ensure they have 8 pin power for GPU and see what shipping is as it may still be smarter to pay a bit more and get something new.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

I liked building my stepson's rig in the Fractal Pop Air a few years ago. Felt like a quality case. Then again, it didn't seem like a $110 case. More like $75. Although perhaps I haven't come to terms with inflation, and I'm still stuck in the 2010's.

It was a quality case, but not a premium case.

I posted an update on the op so if anyone checks they'll see everything is good.

a GTX 1080 from GBA arrived on Weds and the CPU / MOBO / RAM / SSD from Anabois with the Peerless Assassin 120 SE I ordered off Amazon arrived today.

Brad (that's his name) is left with getting a suitable PSU and a case now, though he's going to source the PSU first and see if his ancient Antec case can be made to work. my thoughts are that the side panel will have to be left off so the HSF can fit and that the GTX 1080 may be too long and smack into the front HDD cages all the cases from the 2000's had behind the front ventilation. he is so happy, excited, enthused and humbled / awestruck by the generosity of absolute strangers when I asked for cheep partrs to build him something better than his C2D rig. he wants to thank you all, so I suggested he join HWC, voice is gratitude and start a build thread where he can show pics of what was sent and of putting it together.

to everyone, thank you so much! many of you sent PMs with offers and I can't say how impressed / pleased and humbled I am at your generosity as well. I think I need to take stock of all my junk and hopefully find some treasure I can 'pay it forward' when I have something they would find useful!

My bro-in-law's current 'puter is in one of those type of cases, and it's actually possible the cooler might fit, i.e. ISTR stickin' a CM Hyper 212 EVO in there, and it's 159mm.....

Yeah, that could be a problem, i.e. the hard drive cages come out, BUT the part that those cages mount to could still be in the way..... a dremel tool could take care of that, assuming he doesn't need ALL(both?) of the hard drive cages.
