Gamers Nexus vs LTT

I gave up on GN after his fake fumbling in the dell pre-built hit piece. It was right out of a cheezy made for TV product ad.

I haven't consumed much LTT content since he left here.
I don't recall the fake fumbling? Which video was that? Still infinitely less cheese than LTT content IMO.
I still watch both. LTT is just pure entertainment. But the GN is often more sensationalism than actual journalism. He has to add drama. Making a huge deal out of small things.
I mean, in a world where literally everyone thinks they have to put their face in a shocked expression as the thumbnail of videos, you've gotta grab new viewers with something. I prefer a few bold statements in the thumbnail (minor -level sensationalism, if you want to call it that), followed up with lots of cold, hard facts.

Yes, some videos make bigger issues of minor things, but then again GN often expose unknown things to their viewers, forcing companies and manufacturers to change and improve.

Ex: I think it was the NZXT H1 case fiasco? A while back, but if memory serves, the PCIe riser was a very bad design. Shorts and fire danger. I honestly think GN being a bit "sensational" about it forced NZXT to make changes and re-release the design in a much shorter time than they would've otherwise (if they would've fixed it at all, I don't know NZXT that well). So ya, GN can force good things to happen sometimes, and I like that.

It would have been back in 2021. He was nitpicking every possible thing in the Dell G5 tower (mostly focused on the fact that a proprietary pre-built was 😲 filled with proprietary parts). At one point he was complaining about the cramped quarters (again... a feature, not a bug) and "frustratingly" fumbled inside it presumably trying to remove/install something. It was nauseating.

That's a while before I got into GN, and I haven't seen anything like that in their recent videos. Also, TBF, I'm right there with GN on proprietary format factors and weirdly unique parts. It's scummy from the manufacturers side. You want to reuse your cool old _____ case? Too bad! Welded standoffs in the wrong spots or just impossible to fit standard motherboards inside. Standards should be, you know, the standard. So I can't fault GN for some hate towards that stuff.

Steve took the joke of tech Jesus to heart, he fell into the trap of thinking he is a hard-hitting journalist, there has been a piece or two that was very subjective and well-written(IE, nzxt PCIe fire case), the rest are just attacks/errors/lies looking for anything to drum up drama or controversy the viewer has to decide what is what, he has taken several things out of context and not done any research into some things and runs with it, I think what happened was he did a couple of good pieces and got him huge views and now feels that is what he has to do, sadly the crap with LTT&GN seems to have messed up GN far more then LTT, steve appears to have a real hate on for Linus, some of what he said was legitimate for LTT, some of it was horsesh1t (I watch both from time to time) but I found it funny that once steve found out about LTT Labs LMG as a whole suddenly became the enemy and a large horrible corporation.

this is not to say that they both do good work from time to time. I have watched both since the early days and both have fallen off a cliff in the last few years

edit, Linus talks about it before starting the wan show.

Which means that you're not the target audience for a pre-built. The folks buying these are the ones that are going to buy a new model 5+ years down the line after plugging them in and never touching them again except possibly to plug a new monitor, mouse, and/or keyboard into it.

The great majority of PC owners never crack the case until it's time to replace it, or there's an actual hardware failure.

Kinda sad state of affairs... I can only imagine what it costs to buy a pre-built every few years, even the bleh/cheap ones. Plus the massive headaches of dealing with manufacturers if something does go wrong? Ugh. I hope its gotten a lot better nowadays, maybe good pre-built companies will ship an exact match of yours, you swap the drives (if you know how) and you're done? I certainly hope people aren't shiping their entire PCs all over the place for repairs, as I did with a nightmare laptop years back.

Do current tech sites and channels drive home the fact that building PCs yourself is cheaper, easier, often faster, etc? I hope they do. I mean, I've got 10-12 year old PSUs, faultless, reused in 3-4 builds or more. Cases? Even older, built into even more times for even more PCs. The savings just there are noteworthy.

I guess what I'm saying is, more people need to take the leap and get into "adult lego" PC building for themselves. They're getting fleeced by these pre-built companies.

For me, HUB is generally my favourite hardware reviews (techpowerup for nice written comparison tables), Mike’s HWC videos (mostly only his own hat I routinely watch), GN for a deep dive into something, and a smattering of others less frequently if they peak my interest. I am happy GN will call a spade a spade and go after things like that, but a skim of the highlights is all I will generally do for them.

This is exactly what I’m talking about. He inserts his own bias into his journalism. And his own fans are actually pointing out his missteps. However they could also be LTT fans as well. But my instant reaction mirrored many of those comments.

I've avoided the threads and topics as I don't really care, I don't know either of them, we're not friends, it doesn't effect me, etc.

Saw some of the Honey video and I don't feel like the LTT clip added anything, and arguably a cheap shot, but it's definitely another example of Linus being the twat which he is with the 'baby mocking voice' (and only caring how things affect him and his channel). GN's not going to gain a net positive out of the drama either though.

The LTT threat of a defamation lawsuit is laughable though. GN operates in the USA and the suit would likely need to be filed there. In most US states you need a few things to prove defamation and win a settlement
- The statement is demonstrably false (ie cannot be a statement of opinion)
- The statement must be made to other parties (which has occured)
- Public figures need to prove 'actual malice' - a state made either with knowledge of falsity or reckless disregard for the truth.
- The plaintiff would also have to demonstrate quantifiable damages.

Absolutely no way you'd win the third aspect and it's unlikely that you'd prove the first (Linus' own story and videos would likely add to GN's defense). That seems more like an attempt for legal bullying and is pretty pathetic, and any lawyer worth anything would advise LTT of that.

I prefer Steve over Linus. Both are good kids, but each took a different path. I am not into goofy antics too much, and I don't run server shit.

But being Canadian too, I will watch something of his vids if it catches my eye. I post on their forums but I am not very helpful. I mostly just try to get people to think.. but it doesn't help lol.

The hard hitting deep dives I am not really into, that is more for the younger generations I think. Some of it ok, but ugh..
