Yeah the MP/online only focus of PoE always turned me off and while I bought bundles of both torchlights I always found it too cartoony for my likings.

I found the aesthetic style worked better in Torchlight than it did D3 - especially with how fast paced it is. Torchlight is actually a spinoff of Mythos, a side project by one of the Hellgate London team divisions. When Hellgate London was bought so was the Mythos IP so they had to start fresh - Mythos was actually setup quite similarly to PoE already with multiplayer instances to the outside world with the town being the main hub, etc.

Well I've got 4 hours in and completed the first quest (and parts of several side quests). Definitely a keeper in my mind, but anybody who's interested should be warned that if they didn't like the grind of DII, they're probably not going to enjoy this game.

Sagath: Biggest thing it's got going for it is that it doesn't require any kind of internet connectivity. If you were a DII fan, and were disappointed when DIII didn't come out as a better graphic DII clone you should like it.

Alright. Watched a couple vids. Looks like my cup 'o tea. :thumb:

I've put it on my steam wishlist, once I get through my backlog (Finish NG+ Witcher 3, then Divinity: OS) and I see it on sale, I'll snag it.

I enjoyed the game. Bought in earlier last year when I needed a break from D3. I really like Titan Quest, and they used a very similar skill tree setup (well, the same really). The story is good, the game pretty smooth.

[Summoner] The Lazy Pokémon Master Build - Grim Dawn Forums a summoner that works well. I played it through the first 2 levels of difficulty.

[Warder] Pure RETALIATION, REFLECT, INVINCIBLE, 100k+ DAMAGE, Hardcore Ultimate 100% Done (SF Gear) - Grim Dawn Forums A "thorns" build that takes some gear but is interesting once you get a few pieces.

For whatever reason, I like to make a couple of different classes as it seems inevitable that I will get spellcaster drops on my melee, and vice versa!

The forums have lots of builds, and that is a great plus of this game as there are so many ways to kill the mobs... something for everyone!

Heh.... 8 hrs today..... looks like I might have a new time eater on my hands.

I didn't play Titan Quest (was probably still playing DII... ;) ) so I can't comment on that, but it sure as heck has the feel of DII in that it's just a pure hack and slash, and from all appearances if you muck up your skill choices you're stuck rolling another character.

You can buy back points and redo them, costs increase of course. Um in Act 1 the person is up in the top right room, to the right of the lady with the kids. Can't say I have looked for the person in other acts but you can always go back to Devils Cross (is that the name, been a while since I played).

Devil's Crossing. (pretty good for not having played in a while). :)

Thanks for the heads-up on the points. I assumed she was some form of healer.

10+ hours in and it's certainly (IMO) well worth the price of admission (under $30 w/o the endgame DLC, under $35 with it). Haven't even scratched the surface yet, but it's obvious that the customization options are pretty much endless whether it's socketing runes into gear (haven't even gotten to the blacksmith yet), user selectable base attribute points, a relatively complex skill tree with lots of room to drop skill points where you want them, dual character skillsets so that you're not pigeon holed into simply melee/ranged/spellcaster builds as well as a separate passive skill tree not tied to experience level.

A little further in and this is still feeling very much like what DII fanbois (like myself) were hoping for when DIII was released. It's also pointing to how Casual the character development of DIII is when compared to what some of us fondly remember from DII.

It's also been quite a while since I played a game where I'd leave it running even when AFK for quite a while so that I don't lose my save point for a dungeon I haven't quite cleared yet. :)

edit: As far as PoE goes.... wasn't it also a micro-transaction business model? (But again... if it's all MP, I wouldn't be interested at all anywise).

You can fully play it without MT's, but obviously it takes a lot away from the game. I tried it, and played it quite a bit but ultimately I found there was TOO much choice in skill trees, and it was very punishing if you found out in 10/20 levels that you didnt want that skill after all.

It really rewards replays so you can fix you new alt, but then the choice of the 4000 skills is limited because you've just levelled two dual-wielders up...

I hope thats clear what I'm trying to get across. I liked D2 because you had choice, and maybe you screwed up, but rebuilding wasnt punishing. PoE is punishing imo.
