Hockey Stanley Cup

Correct. Current standings:

I'm a Vancouver fan, so my team isn't in this year. But I'm kinda rooting for Ottawa. They're a huge underdog story and I really like how hard they've been fighting for this. Although they have a major uphill climb to make it to the finals. Not only are they behind vs Toronto, but they'd have to also get through (likely) Florida and Carolina who are playing so well. And of course, it would be nice to see the cup come north. (To any team that isn't Toronto ;) )

how early were the Canucks eliminated from being a possible contender?
Very late. It came down to, like the 2nd last game in the season. Calgary, as well. I think they were 2 points out of the playoffs.

Vancouver had a GREAT come from behind moment late in the season - They were down 4-2 against Dallas with 2:30 minutes left in the third. So Vancouver pulls their goalie, and Dallas scores an empty-netter to make it 5-2 with 2:21 left in the game. Down 3 goals, with 2 min left. Game over, right?

Hell Naw. Canucks keep the extra attacker on the ice, and manage to get 3 goals in the last minute of the game to tie it up.

Then they win in OT. It was AWESOME. And us Jets fans were super happy, because Dallas was right on Winnipeg's tail for 1st place in the West (and the top spot in the league). Vancouver winning that game basically sealed Dallas' fate to come 2nd in the West.

That game is going to go down in history as one of the greatest comebacks ever.

Sigh. Vancouver always have this up and down and never really playoff material. No matter the coaching team or players so I truly believe it's the ownership that's the problem.

I must admit living so close to Ottawa the hype is growing so fast, it is nice to see even though I wouldn't call myself a big hockey fan. They really have worked hard to make it this far, and this first round certainly has been good entertainment.

I suspect they won't get past the Leafs, but get a lot more playoff experience in a hard-fought series than a sweep.

Might even help the Leafs. Not being able to put away an overtime starting with a double minor powerplay is not a good sign for Cup ambitions. Sitting a week waiting for the next opponent I am not sure would have been best; winning in 6 or 7 games far better.

Here is the updated bracket after the games yesterday. Was very happy for the Jets win. Not pleased with the east as all the teams I wanted to move on have lost so far.

I'll be happy if Dallas manages to knock out Colorado. Winnipeg has some bad Juju against Colorado in the playoffs.
I see Vegas knocking out MInnesota, but I'm hoping Edmonton moves past LA and can take out Vegas, for a WPG/EDM conference final. That would be awesome!!!

In the East, I think FLA is going to take out either Toronto or Ottawa, no matter who they end up playing. I have no idea who would win between the Caps and Carolina. Taking on FLA will be a tall order for whoever wins that series. Their team is STACKED!
