New Router Network issues

Router's log would help to find the real problem (we need to know if it's the router or the modem).

I have been using Asuswrt-Merlin for years, it's solid.

Your problem could also be on the ISP side, don't forget that.

My assumption is that the modem stops giving internet or an ip (lease?), so the router cannot do much.

First step would be to contact the ISP and ask them to verify the modem's logs.

that was another option if i upgrade to that trash fire pulse tv it comes with a tower style cable modem and they give you access to check the modem logs yourself as well. ill take a look at the merlin option as well, once i get time off to diagnose this.

Another thing to try when it happens, attempt to ping the gateway itself (assuming its like 192.168.1.1) along with something external, say 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS). If that works, then it would lead me to think it's DNS failing. Whether that's on the ASUS router itself, or on the ISP's end, hard to say. Do you use the ISP's DNS, or something else?

Who's your Internet provider up there anyhow? And is it Cable/DOCSIS, DSL, Fiber or Wireless?

if i could get the ok from landlord id consider it though i guess i could just use the existing cable that comes in as a guide then try mount it lol. but heard some distant rumors a indigenous group is looking to acquire them to improve connectivity and build infrastructure instead of running a fiberline to Edmonton and prey some dipsh*t doesnt cut it. as that controls the Emergency line out and all the network in the city,

It happened again this time with 4 days uptime unplugged the modem gave it 30s plugged back in working again. Before I did I'd copied the router general logs see eth link down alot and for whatever reason date codes are all Jan 01.

Well it sounds like you've isolated it down to the modem then? Guess it's time to call your ISP and ask for a swap or get them to investigate.
