NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 Review Comment Thread

Finally got a chance to read through the whole thing. As usual SKYMTL, thanks for the terrific work you put into these reviews.

Any kind of pricing guesstimate on the Water Block EVGA? Great to see that coming from a main board partner, and hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

I agree, this is awesome if it starts a trend...IF the pricing is right. EVGA has had water blocks before (Remember the HydroCopper?) but the price premium they were charging was astronomically high ($250ish iirc) in comparison to aftermarket blocks like EK's or Koolance for $100-200, so I always ignored it and just looked at aftermarket solutions.

I highly doubt you'll see a serious price drop in the GTX 480.

They'll come down a bit with MIRs but don't expect them to hit that magical low $300 from retail.

I agree, we won't see a GTX 480 @ $300 retail, but based on the performance of the 68x0 cards and the GTX 580, it's not inconceivable that we'll see a card with very comparable performance for $300-350.

Depending on when the 69xx cards are released and when/if there'll be 560 and/or 570 cards, it might be a bad idea to buy a 480 @ $400 retail.

If there's enough 480 inventory floating around, it's not hard to imagine some sales close to $350 as we approach xmas.

Great review as always Sky and thanks for including the Folding benchmarks, interesting that the 580 actually does better on the :censored: 611 pointers than on the other WU's.

Seems like FAH-Addict News likes them also as they used your numbers in their GTX580 update;

Not impressed. It's a nice refresh, but a 10-15fps improvement with the astronomical $560 price tag? I don't know, definitely a generation of cards worth skipping if you already have a video card.

Just bought the MSI GTX 580 from NCIX, got a free copy of Metro 2033 (which I already have), and a copy of Just Cause 2 and Mafia 2 (which I don't have) all for $534.99 plus shipping. Not bad! The first high-end launch card I ever bought, not a bad purchase I suppose...

Edit: Anyone want to buy two XFX 5850's, only 6 and 4 months old? haha
