NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti Review Comment Thread

It's typical that this would turn into a r vs g .......780ti or 290x ......personally I don't need someone telling me what to buy. Glad to see everyone is passionate over there GPU's , really guys it's just a pcb with some stuff on it ;)

I'm enjoying Mr Gordon Freeman's well thought out rational Posts ;)

Beats it in every department except price, you can't pick and choose with your criteria.

Can you live with more heat/noise? Do you like saving a buck? 290X for sure.

Can you afford more? Don't care about price/performance, but you do care about noise? Then 780Ti is for you. Assuming that aftermarket coolers for the 290X are a total flop.

It's Nvidia's flagship card they are not going to turn around and sell it for peanuts when they know it will sell at whatever price they put it at.

The 290x only beats the 780Ti in price/performance when Uber is enabled which is essentially overclocking the card. OC the 780Ti and it's game over...

The heat/wattage are too big of a factor for me, therefore the 290/290x are not a good purchase for me. IMO Nvidia won again.

What really has me miffed is that this was there prob for some time and we were charged absurd amounts of $$ from nv for the "high end" and "mid range" cards when in fact, they were the low end of things in reality.

Well the 290x was the best and it was cheaper. nvidia always over charges and that' why there profit is on the decline. Wait for a proper cooler to come to market for the 290x cause that' the only thing holding the card back. 780ti is hardly much faster than the 290x but cost allot more which is why i think it's another pricing fail from team green.
Nvidia and declining profits??? Nvidia has been doing AWESOME in the money department. At least that's what I've been reading in the news. Do we read different news? I will completely agree that once we see a 290x with a proper cooler we will be having this whole discussion again as it is a potential game changer.

Yeah, I'm really starting to re-consider what I said about pricing. $150 extra is hard to justify, even though it is one SEXY build they have it in. I would personally hate to be buying right now as I can't say if they'll be able to tame the 290x.

Yeah I wouldn't be able to justify the extra cost, especially when loud fans don't particularly bother me, and my man cave is remote enough so as to not bother other folks. :)

That said.... Have there been any 290X cards in the retail channel since the limited initial release? The whole discussion of the 780ti vrs 290X WRT value is predicated on AMD coming up with some kind of stock and so far I haven't seen that so it's pretty much moot.

I will be picking one of these up. Just waiting for EVGA to release the specs and prices of their higher end versions.

Also NCIX.ca with PP is by far the cheapest.

Dont see anything up on the Egg yet.....they generally have the cheapest prices...Belogolas....you'll be waiting for a Classified version I take it...think someone over at Evga mentioned end of this month or so...I see ACX Cooler versions are available at Evga.com

Gotta admit the Nvidia partners are much more on the ball . already offering hydrocoppers and ACX model's while weeks have passed and no words on anything from AMD partners which is drastically needed more so than Nvidias much better reference cooler setup.

True but for instance the Gigabyte windforce 3 450Watt HSF would do great things for the 290x / 290 on air.
