I'm not pissed off at AI. I'm pissed off at tech companies inserting AI everywhere they can and forcing it on users. I recently updated my Samsung tablet and ended up with Google's Gemini even though I didn't want it and won't use it. When I tried holding the power button to power down as usual, instead of powering down, it activates Gemini. I had to waste a lot of time trying to remove Gemini but can't because it's hardwired in now. Then waste time trying to get my power button to work like it used to... I hate that AI is always Opt-Out.

That's a people & tech corp problem, not AI.

I've noticed that when Android Auto changed to Gemini, it's responses are now heavily reliant on suggesting products and services. Basically anything you ask is now responded with "would you like me to redirect your route to a shop where you can buy X?" or "Want me to tell you how you can automate ordering Y", etc etc.

That's not necessarily AI/LLM more so than google's chosen settings, algorithms and other tech, but it's really reduced my interest in using Gemini to nil. I don't need everything to be commercialized to try to get more sales.

Like I've asked questions about stuff I heard on a podcast (Attachment disorder, sociopathy, trebuchets, Brownian motion) and it redirects almost everything to a product or service referral.

I haven't setup Gemini on Pixel, so I guess that would be why Android Auto is still using original assistant for me. And I'm OK with that.

Gemini on Google Home has gotten better. But it still talks too much. Just tell me the brief answer and then shut up.

Besides Google Lens, I don't use any AI on my phone AFAIK.

Hmm it seems like it now defaults to Gemini as the assistant :S Doesn't look like I get to switch back to the old 'dumb' AA assitant. This suuuucks. I hate the new 'AI' AA assistant.

Edit: NM I was able to change it back and stop using Gemini. It was definitely buried in the settings.

The day they make it mandatory I'm giving up on AA completely and just going back to a 97 Prelude or Del Sol with a car deck and a paper map
