Rants etc.....

Holy flooding Batman!! That went above and beyond the forecast this time.

My place is okay. Lots of people I know have full basements. My wife and daughter were overnighting in a trailer at an exhibition grounds before a show and were evacuated at 4 AM due to rising water. They were taken safely to a community centre and then friends place, and I'm getting ready to head out and get them now that I've finally sorted out a path I think through the closed roads.

Not our original weekend plan but all are safe so that's good!

Glad to hear your family is all ok. I CANNOT believe how intense that rain was and how relatively isolated…sadly isolated over the most populated part of the province. 300+mm rain in some areas and <5mm in others. Luckily my family in the HRM are all good as well.
 
First it was Rogers, now it's Telus going around and the only thing he had to offer was a 15-30% drop in my home insurance if I go with their actively monitored security camera and their insurance company, I said why would I change my home insurance to a different company when all our cars and home insurance are bundled through one company to get us a better price, if I move over my security camera's I wouldn't save anything because then my other insurance's would go up, not to mention I don't want my security camera online at all, he asked "why don't want them online" I said really you haven't seen enough people getting there data leaked this way just in the last 6 month ( Anker ) when I can have all that data at my house where I do not need to worry about it ending up god knows where.

when it came to the internet he asked why I needed such a large download/upload, I said it doesn't matter why I want or need it, then proceeds to tell me he can get me 1.5gbps down and 50Mbps up for around 100$, I said that makes no sense why would I drop to a lower speed cause if I wanted lower speeds I would have taken a lower package that cost the same as Telus or less, they really don't arm these people well, after that he went to the whole "well we can package all your things together for a better price", I told him what I was paying he said her could save me 20-30$ a month I told him I am not changing everything to save 20/30 bucks a month so I can have lower speeds on my internet and If I wanted to save that or more I could just drop my internet package down, which I won't do.

It really seems like they have these people go around just to try and get those who don't know or care about these things and as long as they can get them a lower price they may sign up.
 
Just found out about the 4090Ti rumors. I was able to return my 4090 Strix and actually haven't ordered the 4090 FE, so I'm wondering if I just go with the 4090Ti. Can't find any reliable info on Canadian pricing, but if we go off the same price multiplier for US MRSP to CDN BB pricing It looks like it'll be around $2600.

If I'm already going balls to the wall with this build, maybe I should just get a 4090Ti instead and use my 3080 until it's available. I'm sure Barrow will have a 4090Ti block soon.

Just replaced my first one last night and had a reboot a few hours afterwards. I'll give it a few days to "settle down" and do whatever firmware updates that show up, but barring an endless hardware replacement cycle until I get one that works, I may end up going back to rogers (but via cable instead of their fibre since their modem+ont setup doesn't allow for >1G lan).

That forum suggests it's a PPPoE issue, but we're not PPPoE here in atlantic Canada and I'm experiencing the same issue. Pretty hard for my better half to enjoy her PVR'd shows if we can't count on there not being a 5 minute gap in the recording.

Keeping my fingers crossed, but it's been a week without any more "hard resets" after that first initial one. Hopefully replacing the modem has done the trick either through a hardware replacement or a fresh push of my account programming.

I really can't tell if the rumors are believable or not. I don't mind waiting a month or two, but can't find much in the way of reliable rumors, everything seems based off one Chinese listing.

It's not like I have to decide today, but I should figure out if I'm waiting for the Ti or just sticking with a 4090 :unsure:
 
Assuming it is a thing, and I mean history would say so, I'm guessing it'll be a challenge to get here. I think only last week did the 4090FE finally become readily available at Best Buy? I'd say the 4090Ti will be even lower volume production wise.

You could have waited for Ryzen 8000 and the refreshed AM5 motherboards too 😜

what sucks is we probably won't see Strix Point APU until 2025. :(
 
The body is sore after a busy weekend. Friday night we picked up a couple of couches from my sister-in-law, Saturday I dragged a boat and trailer out from the former chicken barn it was stored in and moved it back to my parents' garage, and yesterday I ripped out the water-damaged vanity in the main bathroom and installed a new one then played a double-header of slo-pitch last night. Too much for this 54 year old body in one weekend, I'm moving slow today.
