Rants etc.....

Funny enough, in BC, Richmond and Coquitlam have bylaws that require gas stationsare required to have full service only.

Only until recently all of Oregon you were not allowed to pump your own gas. (Had to double check which state but it turns out some of that was lifted in 2020 kinda).

Supposedly all of New Jersey also has a ban on self-serve.

The Co-op near my house has 4 self-serve pumps and I think 12 full service pumps... there isn't even a price difference between the sides I don't think.

I never knew that mind you I rarely go to those places and when I am I usually have enough Fuel to get home lol

Blood services just started using an automated phone service for confirming donation appts. The bloody (see what I did there??? ;) ) thing drones on and on and actually has an input requirement to confirm the appt so it's possible an appt might not be valid if a person doesn't sit through the whole thing.

I really don't want to spend 5 minutes listening to a computer generated voice parroting things I already know.

How to piss off your volunteers (and possibly turn them away) in one easy step.
I've had that thing. I'm a universal blood donor and my ferritin and hemoglobin levels are through the roof to the point I have to donate now.... but still... that message just about wants me to quit everything.

If my dentist, dr, etc can send a simple text with a single digit reply to confim appoints, then why can they? so dumb.

I suspect it's a case of seeing a need for an automated appt response, but somebody deciding to use 10yr old tech to implement it instead of something more in keeping with people's expectations.

I'm probably just going to block the number.

I had that too, now I realise it anyway. To be honest the first time I deleted it before finishing, but I didn't have an appt booked then. Really not well thought through that's for sure.

something sliced a fiber line somewhere and the internet, land lines and even cellular services for a lot of northern BC communities have gone down.

family on Bell mobility lost everything while I can txt on Fido... but my lte data maxed at 250kb / s, so surfing on my phone is painful.

So my employer has been paying rent on my place since I've lived up here. I sent my boss a request to move from them paying rent to a living allowance. Need an amount in writing to give to the bank so I help w/ getting the mortgage.

Hear back today. They tell me they cannot give me a letter until Sept 1 (eviction day) nor give me an amount. WUT?! I cannot believe they could be so daft. Like do you expect me buy a house / rent a place, then not know how much they'll cover until after the fact? I'd rather quit.

Thankfully when I told them that absolutely will not work for me, 'we'll get you a letter'.
