The Happy thread!

Just had our house inspection.... they're going to install 3  heatpump units!!!

One at one end upstairs, one at the other end in the basement, and a smaller unit for the main bedroom. Should be more than enough to heat the whole house and we'll only have to turn on the boiler when temps are expected to drop below whatever the current trigger temp is for them. bananabananabanana
at what cost to you?

Gotta like that price!

Yeah, and the best part is that our provincial program is all funds to the contractor up-front, rather than the federal program which requires the homeowner to pay up front and then be reimbursed after the fact by putting through a claim.

Pretty sweet to be getting what's probably $15K worth of hardware/labour for free. :)

That's only the first/most expensive part of the deal. I believe we'll also be getting some insulation upgrades in the attic, and some spray insulation on the exposed cement wall in my basement workshop as well as something for the non finished ceiling portions of the basement.

As I redo sections of the basement I have been tearing down the drywall (solid ceiling in a basement is such a pain) but typical drop ceilings really suck.

I found a compromise i'm pretty happy with...

Still accessible like a drop ceiling but very little height lost. And instead of buying crappy tiles that no one likes to look at I buy sheets of drywall (preferably without the bevel on the ends). Cut the drywall to shape and use that as the tiles. Left with a smooth tile look in whatever color you want (i have just been using a satin white) and drywall isn't exceptionally expensive.

And now we've been informed that they're also installing an air exchanger. :)

Also got confirmation on installation for extra insulation in the attic, and spray foam insulation for the one room cement wall, and rafters in a couple of basement rooms (that don't have a false ceiling).

Only fly in the ointment is that we'll have to book a hotel for the day they're doing the spray insulation.

Heat exchangers installed. LG models apparently good to -30c. Going to set our HW baseboard unit to 15c so that it would kick in if we have extreme cold beyond that.

Generally wasn't a fan of Higgs, but his government did me a solid with their green energy plan/project. :)

how long until you get hydro / gas bills to see what kind of savings are being made?

also...being LG, it will die the day after the warranty expires and it'll be a discontinued model so no replacement parts available. :P
