The NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti Performance Review Comment Thread

Usually the mods let a quick quip go, just don't go overboard, we don't even like political threads in OT here
(which I'm truthfully fine with, there's lots of other places people can go for that if they want).

Finally found some 980ti sli vs 1080ti benches, and while I was briefly mulling over 2x 980ti as an option and saving 3-400, I'm still mixed. If game support wasn't hit-and-miss sometimes I'd be more tempted.

Totally fair enough! I got it offa my chest and will now behave myself :D

Some of us here are Canadian and Russian at the same time (including the channel editors), so let's just get along on the matter of the best GPU on the planet.

At this point is it better to wait for Navi or Volta than upgrading to the GTX 1080 Ti especially if someone already owns GP104 such as the 1070/1080?

Depends what you play . Personally I'm glad I upgraded back in April because there's a pretty good difference going from a 980ti to a 1080ti in the games I play @ 3440X1440. Has there been any rumors on release dates for volta ?

I agree with implosion222. I had a decently factory overclocked 1070 and the upgrade to a 1080 Ti for 3440x1440 is really impressive. I was surprised at just how satisfying the upgrade was and I bought a used 1080 Ti so saved some bucks there.

If NVIDIA's new tech is imminent then sure, perhaps waiting makes sense to see what it delivers, but certainly if you are running a 1070 the 1080 Ti is very nice. Even over a 1080 I think it would be a noticeable upgrade but that is a guess, I don't have personal experience there.

Jen-Hsung Huang already confirmed back in the summer that Volta wouldn't be coming before 2018:

Upgrading to a 1080 Ti really depends on your usage case. I moved up to the 1080 Ti from a 1080 when I saw this announcement because I shifted my focus and am interested in pushing as many frames as possible for the FPS games I currently play. I've been using a XB271HU for quite some time now, but if I can get the refresh's hz in framerate (~280fps) and maintain it I use Fast-sync over G-Sync. If I can't maintain that I'll just frame-cap at 142 and use Gsync.

I find 27"+IPS+2560x1440+Gsync still remains the best desktop/gaming mixed use scenario for enthusiasts... until such a time that the 4K HDR Quantum Dot 27" 144hz screens are released. :haha:

I'm in the same boat. I have a Strix 1070 and I have been pondering upgrading to a 1080ti for a while now to get more out of my X34. Are we talking early 2018 for Volta or more Q2-Q3?

Kinda waiting for Black Friday and go from there i guess, Mikes had good prices on 1080ti's a few weeks ago, but prices have been creeping back up a little.
