this is the unofficial odd thoughts, observations and random question thread

might also be an actual gasket. Not done a whole lot of sinks but have seen one come with a premade gasket before.

I don't think it's gasket because it got little pockets in the aged material. If it's paper, metal, or rubber gasket, I would expect just rips.

Use translucent 100% silicone. Don't use caulk. Most sinks come with some sort of gasket so I'd be surprised if it was plumbers putty. Ya never know though. Definitely try and get it out of there though. Alternatively you can disconnect the taps and drain, pull the sink, and clean it up properly.

why didn't the mini-HDMI connector ever get popular? in the PC world, smaller is better.

Probably because HDMI was more consumer TV focused than it was PC. I can recall having at least one vid card which had a mini HDMI, but don't believe I ever had a mini HDMI monitor which meant an extra adapter required for the vid card to connect to anything.

and yet there is a HDMI port on almost every laptop still. in the laptop world, the USB-C connector has almost taken over entirely...so not the end of the world. :P

100% agree though usb-c should eliminate all others. I have mentioned it here before that it makes more sense for a GPU to have 4 usb-c ports than anything else.

yes! I want to buy a modern AMD Ryzen MiniPC where the backside has 4x USB-C with DP alt mode, 2x USB 3.2 4x6 whatevers and an Intel multi-gig wired NIC. of course, WiFi 7E and Bluetooth 5.infinity. :D

edit - my memory failed me (HaH!), the Nuc 14 Pro an Pro+ have two TB4 and two HDMI 2.1 ports on the back...one USB 3.1 and one USB 2.0 (whyyy???). so close...but not quite there.
