this is the unofficial odd thoughts, observations and random question thread

has anyone here looked into the infusing water with extra hydrogen craze?
Considering how quickly loose hydrogen escapes from water... not convinced. Feels more like a sell more bottled water scam atleast on the surface. Admittedly I have not dove into it very far.

how many here frequently order stuff from Amazon.com? I did it a lot back in the early 2010's and then exchange made it not so attractive...but I'm finding myself doing it more often now. recent example is the Marbles saddle axe I bought...$25 USD vs. $125 CAD on Amazon.ca. or today, the anti-perspirant my wife prefers; $14 CAD for 2 or $32 USD for 12. aye yi yi!

I haven't done it, but does that stuff come in free from customs/duty? I almost always seem to get nailed when ordering stuff from the US so that tends to make it not worth it in a lot of cases.

The old standard used to be sticking with sellers who had a USPS option, or ones (like B&H) who have an up-front all-in shipping option to Canada.

Personally, I really try to stick with retailers who have a canadian webpage in order to avoid all of that crap. (Apparently hasn't been working with WD lately).

Yeah exactly. Nothing worse than getting nailed with a brokerage fee from UPS for example on top of duty and tax. I speak from too often experience! Sucked in by the seemingly low USD price.

Can confirm the recent B50 Pro from B&H didn't end up having any kind of surprise costs associated with ordering it. I was worried about it.

Amazon.com lets you pay all the taxes up front. they'll even do the exchange conversion so your card is charged in CAD rather than USD too.

interesting. after...I don't know, more than 8 years I had a Groupon email pop up in my inbox this afternoon. it's not a a bother, but I'm gong to update it and see what happens when the location goes from Vancouver, BC, where loads of activities abound to Prince Rupert where all we can do is dance in the rain. :P
