Oblivion Remaster

There's been rumours about this floating around for a bit now, and some leaks.

I never really played the original much so perhaps I'll give the remaster a go. Can't watch the whole video atm, does it mention cost?

It's still being streamed. Nothing on price yet.

Would have prefered to see a morrowind remaster before an oblivion one.
there is test build floating around it was done with the first version of RTX Remix (RTX Studio Now) it looked amazing thought my rose tinted glasses never seen a issue with old on but seeing the models in HD with ray traced lights and textures deblurred made it look really good.

now that i have a 4090FE i can finally tinker with this tool more think the minimum requirements for the game is DX 9 so quite a few titles i can work with.

Extra side note... did wishlist this as it would be fun to revisit this one... however a remaster which in the end in theory isn't much more than a couple bug fixes (maybe if we are lucky) and a baked in texture pack. Seems weird to me that it is asking brand new AAA pricing.

atleast it looks like they baked in all the previous content instead of half dozen DLCs.

Likewise, I'm assuming that this was both a test case for Bethesda working with Virtuos studio for the remaster, as well as using the dual-engine approach of Creation+Unreal engine for the main system vs graphics.

I'd assume they thought Morrowind would be a more challenging undertaking. There's no voice acting, the systems are very archaic by PC RPG standards and everything would be recreated from the ground up. They could likely salvage some Oblivion assets, or at least remaster the originals without having everything re-made from scratch.

Only skimmed the video while at work. It's still a little muted compared to the original, but looks good, almost 'Oblivion in Skyrim's palette' to a degree.

I saw they changed some of the leveling systems which is good as Oblivion's was pretty bad. I didn't catch anything on combat mechanics outside of the visuals, but I really hope they implemented a better way of switching weapons and spells. Skyrim was particularly bad for spending as much time in combat within menus as within actually fighting.

Avowed really nailed the 'quick switch' two gear sets with the grimoires allowing multiple spells to a single hotkey. I'm not expecting them to copy it for both lore and originality reasons, but the ESIV and ESV system have aged pretty poorly.

I've got a couple hours left on Jedi Survivor, but will likely download this on gamepass and at least do a brief test over the weekend. Though I'll wait for a patch or two before sitting and trying it in any length (Bethesda after all...)

If this does well it could hopefully mean a promising future for a Fallout 3 and FNV remaster. F3 is a problem even modded and it's basically playable by running it in the FNV engine at this point.

I'm not sure where my copy of oblivion was purchased/registered.... it's not (to my surprise) showing up as tied to my steam account..... I wonder if this was one of the last physical game disks I bought?

edit: Found it on GOG. :)

It was a year or two before I started using Steam. Think I bought retail package of fallout 3 as well.

I did buy Remaster and is DLing. Will give me something to do when visiting my parents next week.
