New computer chair

So I pulled the pin on a SecretLab Titan. $500 with shipping all said and done with the BF/CM sale which isn't too bad for what's supposed to be a premium chair. I was never going to spend the money on a Herman Miller and considering I was pretty happy (and comfortable) with a Costco office chair I've had for 5+ years, I suspect I'll be fine.

I'll post back with thoughts/opinions once I've gotten it.

I think that looked like a pretty nice option. Look forward to hearing what you think.

The big reason I have an Aeron is because I got a demo show floor previous year model for $550. So that was a good deal. Warranty still intact too.

Just some preliminary thoughts on the SecretLab Titan;

First thing you'll notice right out of the box is it's all new materials with Poly leather and foam cushioning so it has a potent smell. If you've ever been in a brand new car off the factory receiving or unboxed a foam mattress you know the smell. I ended up not using for about a day as I *hate* new car smell/foam and glue odors.

Pros:
- Excellent build quality and feels premium.
- Spacious and comfortable without feeling like you're a 10 year old in Dad's chair.
- Assembly is pretty easy (but it's a chair, you're not building the space station....)
- Adjustable lumbar support is fantastic and miles better than a pillow.
- Lots of adjustment options. Most are some kind of lock/release mechanism.
- Adjustments have a good range, seat tilt and backrest tilt have huge margins.
- Delivery was included in cost and reasonably fast given the large package.

Cons:
- Aforementioned off-gassing when new (subsides after a couple days).
- Rotation of armrests/toe in or out is a kind of twist-lock that only has 3 positions and doesn't feel as high-quality as the rest of the adjustments.
- Uses FedEx by default which is the worst courier in Edmonton (Highly YRMV though).

Overall I'm very happy and will probably write up a mini-review in the member's review section with some photos and measurements. If you have any questions or want specific measurements/angles let me know and I'll throw them in.

For me, being a taller fellow, the key measurements are depth of the seat pan, the part you sit on from back to front, and the height of the top of the seat pan to the floor. Issue I usually have for ergonomics is having the seat pan be long enough under my thighs and go high enough to get the 90 degree knee angle.

Thanks for the follow up FreeKnight. "You're not building a space station" made me chuckle ;)

$500 and it's polyurethane leather? I can easily get a better office chair (with real leather) that doesn't have the "gaming chair" and that doesn't cost $500. For $500 they should be using more than PU Leather or Bonded leather. Don't see how anyone can suggest PU leather when it will crack and will flake off.

$1,545.81 CAD :blarg:

Thankfully only one tax. The mercer fabric and the white frame added about $100 to the base cost. Cheaped out on casters as I'll just pull the rollerblade casters off my Aeron.
Did you get your Embody yet?

This place: https://trackofficefurniture.com/ is selling them for $1250 brand new, all black though. And there's used Haworth Zody ($350) and Fern ($650) at Office Furniture Toronto / Newmarket Office Furniture / Workstations, Chairs & Filing Cabinets.

Lead time was 4 weeks or so. So hopefully it will ship relatively soon.

I'd be down for used chairs but only if local. Shipping a chair is going to be ridiculously expensive.

Did you get it with the upgraded fabric?

I've been thinking of selling my remastered 2016 aeron because it sometimes makes my thighs numb. I'm not particularly impressed after spending so much on basically a fully loaded chair.

Word of advice for anybody considering a new chair: testing chairs in-store is fine but it won't prepare you for what you might or might not feel after an extended session.

Whats an extended session lol....get up and stretch ....go for a walk......I buy cheap $250 Office chairs from Costco.....work fine....although this one I have right now the hydraulic ram is borked...Im almost 6 ft....so my bloody knees wind up near my chin ...:blarg:...took it apart and put a section of PVC pipe in there so it doesnt go down on its own anymore !!!!

My thighs have never bothered me in a regular Office chair and I spend 5 months out of the year on my ship (with a regular Office chair in my Ships Office), I also had both of my hips replaced (I was quite young for that) 4 yrs ago...........:thumb:

I didn't get the really expensive 'balance' fabric. I went w/ mercer.

Only 180,000 versus 200,000 for 'Wyzenbeek, double rubs' of the balance.

I believe the Aeron has 100,000 double rubs. I use mine a whole lot and after 10 years mine still looks good. So I think the Embody should last a long while.

At my work we sell these gaming chairs once in a awhile often assembling them too... almost all are actually not very comfortable tbh. at best i found a few tolerable.
I was in a secretlabs omega and titan chair before the omega is hard .. the titan isnt alot better but better than most of the others i've seen.

I wasn't particularly happy with any honestly.

I ended up bringing home a lazyboy chair it only has tilt and up/down no back lower since the arms bind the back and bottom. but its the most comfortable office chair i've been in.
You can fall asleep in it and not wake up stiff or soar kind of comfort.

its a tilt-reclining leather heavily padded and comfortable office chair , I haven't found my gaming to be lacking because i chose a more comfortable chair either btw.
