Photography thread --IMAGE INTENSIVE--

Peanut halves work well for a lot of birds. But will attract squirrels & starlings.

Edit - these were all taken today. About 6 to 8 m/f cardinals came in, along with house sparrows, chickadees, carolina wren, juncos, downey woodpecker. Been a dark day with all the lake effect snow, but lucked out with some on/off sun coming through when they arrived.

I wished we had Cardinals in my area of BC

I also agree, the kind of strange thing is that where I live in Aldergrove there are some but not as many as in other places I have been to I see more robins and chickadees and sparrows then Starlings
I periodically curse the guy who brought them over... along with the nature of the bird - you can't just get one or two of them visiting. One or two turns into 20 or 30 if you're lucky. They only leave when there's nothing to eat (or shit on).

"Schieffelin was a late 19th century New York pharmacist and by 1877 was the chairman and driving force of the American Acclimatization Society.

He imported 60 starlings to New York and on March 6, 1890, brought them from his country house to Central Park. Reportedly, other introductions of birds from Shakespeare's poems and plays had not fared well in America. So what could possibly go wrong with releasing five dozen little black birds with stubby tails in the middle of New York City on what has been described as a snowy and cold spring morning? More than 125 years and 200 million starlings later, we know the answer."

Although Starlings are often maligned :) in the right season when the sun hits them just right they can have some impressive colours mixed in with the black, and their various vocalizations are nothing short of amazing. They're no Crows and Ravens mind you, but still pretty cool.

But yes... they do shit on my car... and that is unwelcome lol

Perhaps there's challenge in there for you excellent bird photographers; can you catch the Starling in a flattering or impressive light? 📷
