Seriously, that sucks. The fact someone came in and ran off with your stuff while you were home has got to be the worst part. I'd be uber paranoid after that - actually, I already am, I pity the schmuck who comes into my house uninvited while I'm home.

And your point is what exactly? No matter how good it makes these little kiddies feel, the fact is that it's not worth risking the safety and well-being of yourself or others for a measly television and some video games. Let the police worry about catching criminals, and you can worry about making sure you don't get yourself or someone else hurt because you decided to be stupid and take matters into your own hands.

Is that necessary? Can't we stick to commenting on the topic?

The OP's loss is a sad reflection of society and imho, all you can do is prevent it from happening it again by safeguarding. Everyone is right... no one cares about you so all you can do is protect yourself. There's been some good suggestions, watch dog, surveillance cameras and I must say, I do like the idea to 'chain it down.' Pretty drastic but it's more likely to stay put.
