Rants etc.....

The body is sore after a busy weekend. Friday night we picked up a couple of couches from my sister-in-law, Saturday I dragged a boat and trailer out from the former chicken barn it was stored in and moved it back to my parents' garage, and yesterday I ripped out the water-damaged vanity in the main bathroom and installed a new one then played a double-header of slo-pitch last night. Too much for this 54 year old body in one weekend, I'm moving slow today.

Heh.... yeah... you're no spring chicken any more.....

It's the constant bending on certain tasks that gets me these days. :)

Assuming it is a thing, and I mean history would say so, I'm guessing it'll be a challenge to get here. I think only last week did the 4090FE finally become readily available at Best Buy? I'd say the 4090Ti will be even lower volume production wise.

You could have waited for Ryzen 8000 and the refreshed AM5 motherboards too 😜
Well waiting 2-3 months for a GPU I don't mind. Waiting until mid 2024 for a MB+CPU is a bit too long.

You're right availability will be an issue. I don't expect the shortages to be as bad as the initial 4000 series release, but they won't be sitting on shelves easily at first, that's for sure.

That is interesting though. I don't think 4000 series sales have been super brisk have they? Do we think there are that many people holding out of a 4090 Ti? They won't likely be tonnes of them though, that's true.

I think the initial run will sell out. Maybe for the first month they'll be quick to sell, it's just the logistics of a new product available internationally, but I don't think it'll be anywhere near as hard as the 4080/4090 cards were to get. Maybe if Nvidia only puts out really small numbers of them, but demand has kind of peaked, people aren't spending as much due to recessionary concerns and inflation (housing in particular for Canadians).

The market is extremely irrational these days, the 4090 flew off shelves when it came out, the price surely didn't stop anyone. As far as I know, discretionary spending is still pretty strong in Canada, people seemingly aren't cutting back quite yet. Perhaps with skyrocketing housing costs, people are spending on goods and services instead as they have "extra" cash that would have otherwise went towards buying a bigger home or a first home.

Just found out about the 4090Ti rumors. I was able to return my 4090 Strix and actually haven't ordered the 4090 FE, so I'm wondering if I just go with the 4090Ti. Can't find any reliable info on Canadian pricing, but if we go off the same price multiplier for US MRSP to CDN BB pricing It looks like it'll be around $2600.

If I'm already going balls to the wall with this build, maybe I should just get a 4090Ti instead and use my 3080 until it's available. I'm sure Barrow will have a 4090Ti block soon.
there was a auction for $100,000 for the cooler of the 4090Ti lol. im guessing it will come eventually, and hopefully with the new non melty boys HP connector.

Keeping my fingers crossed, but it's been a week without any more "hard resets" after that first initial one. Hopefully replacing the modem has done the trick either through a hardware replacement or a fresh push of my account programming.

And of course... had a hard reset this morning... :(

1 / week isn't horrible if it settles there, but it's still not ideal, and there were reports in the thread I posted which suggested it can be a progressive problem that gets worse over time. (Which suggests to me that it might be a software issue relating to something like a memory leak).
