The Happy thread!

Man that PetSmart cat food deal I posted about yesterday was amazing. I ended up getting my Rakuten points on my order. Then today I realized I wanted more, but Rakuten was down to 2% cash back. Air Miles has the 30 points / $20. However it clearly states it only includes in store pickup and normal delivery. But I went through the Air Miles site and still added the 15% off same day delivery. Yet still got my Air Miles!

With the Rakuten CB, you are getting a $3.79/can of food for about $1.33. That is just insane.
 
Apparently they've changed the rules on applying for the Canadian Forces Pension plan health plan.

When I retired (18 years ago) there was a two year grace period to apply for the plan after retirement, after which I was no longer eligible. After getting a query from the new government dental plan about my eligibility status (there's a box on T4s) I called into to the pension center and was informed that they've changed the rules so that there's no longer a grace period and that I (we) actually qualify to apply based on the standard flat rate.

Sounds like it'll be somewhere around $200/month which is a steal for a seniors' family plan. :)
 
Just had a surprisingly good experience with canadian tire's online search / local store shopping system....

Did a search for a proper kitchen sink stopper replacement for my relatively old sink (old style with latch) and came up with a promising listing on the canadian tire website.... Knowing they had something which looked like it would do the trick I intended to go to the store to pick one (or two) up.... while on my way out for a shopping trip I got a "hey... did you like what you saw" email which conveniently told me what aisle it was in, and then to top it all off.... there's a link on the website to set off a blinking light on the product tag so that you can find it on the shelf/rack.

I'm typically not a fan of the nagware "see something you liked" emails from online retailers but in this case the system actually worked to my advantage and made finding what I was looking for easy peazy.
 
Was it an email or a push notification from the app? I could see it using location services to determine you were in/near the store if you have the app installed.

I like the concept of the "make the tag blink" idea however it has never once worked in any of the 3 Canadian tires I have tried it. When inside the store website fails to load even on their guest wifi, so can't make the tags blink.

It was an email, but I believe that was just time based while the location info came from opening the browser link in the email thus opening the CT website which used my saved profile's store preference to display the aisle info

edit: just to be clear, the initial search was on my laptop at home.
