Eyefinity Clarification Thread Q&A

Finally .................

after I found out that one of the DACs was corrupt, I went and bought a new 5850 instantly and now it works.

5040 x 1050 with 50 FPS in Dalaran, if you know what that is ;-)

The only thing is, that it looks awful, because Blizzard doesn't just extend the viewable Horizont, it "stretches" it, like a Fisheye

If you want to have a look AWK

Is it possible to have 3 monitors (actually 2 monitors + a tv) plugged in, say 2 x DVI, and 1 x HDMI (or passive Displayport to HDMI) and just select the 2 monitors you'd like to use?

I currently run a dual monitor setup, and I occasionally play movies off my tv. So I have to unplug my 2nd monitor cable, and plug in the cable to the tv. It's a pain in the butt, and I'd just like to have all 3 permanently plugged in and switch via the Catalyst Control Center instead of crawling under my desk. I do not need all 3 working at the same time, just 2.

Anyone know if this will work?

Sure thing. You can mix and match any monitors under CCC. The limitations come from when you want to make an Eyefinity display group out of 2 or more of them. If you're just running three separately or the two monitors in an eyefinity group + your TV, there shouldn't be any problems.

Awesome. Thanks for the speedy reply. Now to spend more money on cables. :blarg:

Gosh, i read thru this entire thing, and i'm even more confused...i have:
2 vga lcd monitors
1 dvi lcd monitor
1 6870 (which has one dvi-i and one dvi-d and two mini displayports)

#1 vga monitor uses vga-to-dvi adapter and plugs into dvi-i of the 6870
#2 dvi monitor plugs into dvi-d of the 6870
#3 could i use a passive vga-to-mini_displayport for the other vga monitor, as the third monitor for eyefinity? Or, does it have to be active? I heard it doesn't matter...

*EDIT*: so i read in a couple of places, for 3 dvi displays, yes, i need an active display port adapter. However, if i use a vga/d-sub monitor as the third monitor, no, i don't need an active "vga to display port" adapter. Since I only have one dvi monitor, i assume this will be no problem then. I also heard that essentiall all "vga to display port" adapters are "active". I read that some people were successful in their eyefinity setup, after having bought a "vga to display port" adapter. Gonna buy one and find out.

well you pretty much will have to use the displayport at some point if you want eyefinity. I currently have 3x Samsung monitors (all different models lol), here 's what I've done.

2 of the monitors use DVI ports on my 5850, and my 3rd monitor uses a active DVI -> DP adapter, (the power color one can be had for ~$30).

I wonder if you can just go DVI - > Active DP -> Mini DP adapter on the new 6800 series.

As it breaks down on the 5850, you can use any combination of 3 out ports on the GPU as long as one of them is DP.
