Intel i7-4930K & i7-4820K Review Comment Thread

I just goy my 4930K and was a bit surprised that no heat sink or fan was in the box. Does that mean any intel stock cooler will do the trick? I have liquid cooling so it's no big deal for me,I'm just curious as to why no heatsink is included.
Sorry to laugh at you, but have you been living under a rock???? Extreme series never come with a intel heatsink and 90% of places that mention the 4930k also mention that it comes "OEM" (no heatsink).

I don't think the 4930K is the Extreme. At any rate,I have purchased a lot of intel CPUs and every one of them had a heatsink included. The 3930K I have had a heatsink included. I didn't see the info that said OEM and no heatsink. Now I know it says that but at the time of purchase i didn't care about a cooler. I just wanted that CPU. And what's wrong with living under a rock? I've been living under one for a very long time and I'm very very happy.

Personally, I like living under a rock. It gives me a different perspective.

;)

Slik, didn't you notice your 3930K didn't come with a stock cooler either ???? or I guess Killswitch would have noticed this ;) You must be the only guy in North America or the Western Hemisphere that received an Intel Heat sink with your 3930K ,,,,,,,,?! They were never offered with the Chip.
Did you ever push that 3930k beyond 4.2 Ghz to find the Max OC??? Curious as it could be a "dream Chip" n you don't even know it !!!!!!

Also yes some Extreme chips did come with Intel Coolers, such as my old 980x!!

I'm almost positive the CPU came with a heat sink. I'll double check with Killswitch. I had the 3930K at 4.4ghz and I know I could go a bit higher with no trouble. My problem is properly cooling a high overclock with the design of my level 10 case. That's why I got the Air 540,4930K and the Swiftech H220 cooler. Once Killswitch and I get the build done,we can push the hell out of my system and see what happens. I'm sure I'll have a bit of bragging to do once we're all done.

FYI as someone else mentioned the 3930k never came with a heat sink, just like your new CPU, Chip in a box ;)
My 3930K hit a heat wall at 4.8 Ghz, around 85c peak running LinX, just got the HW moved into the 900D with the Swiftech h320 last night, we'll see if I can get a 4.8 - 4.9 24/7 O'clock or not. I'm impressed with the h320 cooler, very nice AIO water cooler and the 6 Noctuas on push /pull fit nicely in the top of the case ;)
