Some home audio upgrades

@lowfat their rebate policies are the rebate cannot exceed 50% of the purchase. $400 credit must be used on $800+ purchase.

All purchases made on January 1, 2010 or later (current up to today's date), have a minimum purchase requirement equal to double
the value of the rebate. (The rebate can not exceed 50% of the total amount of the invoice that it is being redeemed on before
taxes. Ex. A $50 rebate must be used on a $100 purchase or greater before tax.)
Yes. Maybe my wording could have been better. But the AVR is $1500 and the rebate is $400. So I'm good.

I also have another $180 rebate. But I don't believe I can use both at the same time. :(

Using like durabond or something to smooth those cabinets out?
It's probably pretty easy to find one of those paradigm drivers in Canada for replacing the torn one- there must be millions out there.
They are 30 years old at this point. No parts on eBay. And when I see them pop up for sale they are listed for quite a bit. I plan to just buy some generic surround kits.

EDIT: I started using DAP 'premium' wood filler. As far as I can tell it is just regular spackle. It has no strength. I moved to Lepage plastic wood filler. It is a big stronger. But it is also an acetone base, so its chewing through my gloves like a madman. I've mostly just moved to JB Weld now. It is probably 10x stronger so its the only thing I'm trusting for the corners.

Found drivers that I think would work... for $200 after shipping. That is what I paid for both speakers. New surrounds are $16 for 4 shipped via Aliexpress :p. Even if I have to replace the surrounds on all 4 drivers to make sure they are the same, I'd rather do that as I'm cheap lol.

Plus I'm probably going to sell them after fixing them. So dropping $200 and turning around and selling them for 3 to 4 hundred don't make much sense.

Nothing listed.

But TBH I need the experience anyways. I have to replace the surrounds on both of the B&W DM603s I have. Damn cat tore up surrounds on both speakers. He also pushed in the dome on one of the tweeters. :mad:
I was only referring to HFS and CAM as sources for parts or inspiration. :)

The plan was always to put most of my money / effort in to the sound setup for my office. But w/ the new bigger OLED coming I just can't see me wanting to watch media on a 48" vs the 65" from a similar viewing distance.

So I believe I'm going to focus on the living room instead. Which means I'll be using the monster JL 12" W7 and Crown amp sooner than I had thought. So I measured the W7 and started working on the cabinet.

Red = 12W7 with a 5cft box @ 1000W
Green = 12W7 with a 7cft box @ 1000W
Blue = 12W3V3 w/ a 5cft box @ 350W. This is the sub I was modelling a couple weeks ago.

This is SPL plot. The W7 will be over twice as loud as the W3V3 but at 3X the power draw.

But here is where it gets interesting. Normally when I am designing a cabinet, the subs max excursion (xmax) is always the limiting factor. But this thing, it is literally impossible to overexert without going over the max power handling of the sub (as long as you are using a subsonic filter). The xmax of the 12W3V3 is 13mm, the W7 is 29mm. :eek:

EDIT: Someone on another forum mentioned I should possible design for the peak power handling instead of continuous. The Crown amp can do over 2000W. Had to slightly adjust the subsonic filter, which is still WAY under the audible frequencies.

Red = @ 2000W
Green = @ 1000W

3dB higher, which is technically twice as loud but in terms of human hearing, just noticeable.
