The "What book are you reading" Thread

Reading the 'extra' Dune novels reminded me a lot of Enders game. They're really different books altogether.
There are some stark differences though, one being different writer, two the author of the Ender Games franchise has admitted he has no actual story mapping and relies on fans proofing his first drafts to catch anything he may have screwed up.

Honestly the only extended universe Dune novels I don't like are the House Trilogy (the second trilogy they added) because several people's who personality are completely different in that then the Dune novel itself which makes it weird and disjointed, to me anyways.

I did read through the Appendices and the Afterward by Frank Herbert's son. The latter was quite interesting and gave me a better context about when the books were first published. The Appendices were helpful, but I don't think I would go so far as to say someone should read them first because they have too many spoilers in them.

Based on your guys' recommendation I started Gardens of the Moon last night. Reading the author's forward made me chuckle. He commented that he doesn't handhold the reader and that a main influence on how he wrote the series was Dune! :)

I'm not reading through the Altered Carbon trilogy as fast I'd like especially as I realized the third Weir (The Martian writer) came out last week which is one of the novels I've been waiting for as I've quite enjoyed his writing style of The Martian and Artemis.

does anyone know of any books on making paper airplanes that aren't books with paper and fold markings inside? they seem to be the only kind I can find. :P

my grandson is burning up reams of paper making flying creations and most of them don't work...so I'd like to get him a book that talks about making paper airplanes and has illustrations on making them.

he's 7, so it can't be crazy advanced. I'm gonna buy him a hand controlled IR flying UFO / drone and then mebe step up to a cheap RC plane for him to try. there's a popular model on Amazon for about $40.

The advantage of moving is I dig out all my old stuff gathering dust.
I decided to dust off and start the Fortress Series from C.J. Cherryh again. I forgot how much I loved it.
